What Shema means

More than a name. A practice.

Shema means to listen deeply, pay focused attention, and respond with action or obedience.
It’s also an acronym: Serve Humanity Every Moment Allowed.

Serve Humanity Every Moment Allowed

This isn’t just a name. It’s what we do. Every match, every conversation, every moment of connection is built on truly hearing each other and showing up when it matters.

Built around listening first, then responding with care.

How it works

Three small steps. No leap of faith required.

  1. Share what you're going through

Anonymously. No real name, no pressure to explain it all at once.

  2. Get matched with someone who understands

Matched on your situation and the kind of support you actually want, never on who you are.

  3. Connect safely, on your terms

Text or voice, your pace, your rules. Step away or report anyone, any time.

Why Shema is different

Not just another support app.

  • Anonymous by design

No real names, no profiles, no social media links.

  • Safety-first, not an afterthought

AI keyword monitoring, community rules, reporting, and escalation to professionals — built in from day one.

  • Built to be affordable

We're keeping the cost model simple and fair, and waitlist members will always get the best deal we offer.

  • Not therapy, not a replacement

Peer support that fills the gap between struggling alone and professional care.

  • Dual preference matching

You tell us what you're going through AND what kind of support you want. Recovery peer, anxiety ally, text or voice, direct or gentle, shared interests beyond the struggle. You set both sides so your match fits how you actually want to connect, not just what you're dealing with.

Safety & trust

A safe room doesn’t happen by accident.

We’re designing Shema around anonymity and safety from the first sketch, not as settings you have to go find.

  • Your anonymity is protected at every step
  • Community guidelines enforced from day one
  • AI-powered safety monitoring with human escalation
  • Built by people with lived experience and mental health professionals
  • Not a crisis service: clear pathways to professional help when needed

I’m building Shema because I lived it. Mental health has affected me deeply. I’ve lost a lot of close people in my life. I’ve had multiple near-death experiences that changed how I see everything. There were years where I didn’t feel good enough for anyone, where I’d talk to myself because I didn’t know who else to talk to. The loneliness wasn’t just quiet. It was crushing.

Growing up in an Indian community, the silence around mental health was its own weight. Struggling isn’t just personal there. It’s seen as weakness, as something that brings shame to the family. You’re told it’s a test of faith, that you just need to be stronger, more grateful. Not to talk about it. So you don’t. You carry it quietly, because speaking up feels like betraying everyone who sacrificed for you. I carried that silence for years before I could even name what I was feeling.

And the hardest truth? My pain didn’t stay mine. The ways my struggles spilled over onto the people I love hurt them in ways I’m still making peace with. They didn’t sign up for that weight, but they bore it because they cared. My wife carried more than her share. She saved my life when I couldn’t save myself.

That’s why, when we named this platform, it was her name we chose. Because most people tried to fix me or tell me what was wrong. She just understood. No fixing. No judgment. Just someone who’d stayed close enough to actually see me.

That’s why Shema exists. Not as a product, but as the support I wish I’d had, and the support she gave me when no one else could. Anonymous peer support where you’re matched with someone who gets it. A way to bring back the connection, compassion, and empathy we lost.

I’ve heard countless stories from people carrying their own pain, and I keep coming back to the same thing: everyone deserves a version of what she gave me.

If this resonated with you, you’re not alone. We’re building Shema for people like us.

A way to reach a professional, right inside Shema

The lines above are independent of Shema. We’re also building a way to connect you with a licensed professional, using the same dual preference matching we use for peers, extended to both sides. You set what you’re going through and the kind of support you’re looking for, and professionals set their own preferences too, their domain of expertise and who they work best with, so you’re matched on genuine fit.

This is a paid professional service, separate from peer support. Shema’s role is the introduction. From there, the sessions, meetings, and how you work together happen directly between you and the professional, on your own terms. This still won’t be a crisis service. If you’re in immediate danger, call 911.
